hi, I have a 35 hp mercury 2 stroke serial number oa186088 can`t find any info. I need to replace my lower unit.
is it a long or short shaft? would any other model lower unit fit my outboard.
any info would much be appreciated.
It's a 1985. Can't say from the serial if long or short - you'd need to measure it. A long shaft driveshaft extends about 22.5 inches from the upper face of the gear case housing. Short would extend 17.5 inches. I'm assuming you've removed the lower unit from your motor at this point?
Similar era 45/50hp 4-cylinder lower units will bolt right up. There are several 35/45/50 lowers on eBay...
thanks for your reply. I haven`t removed the lower unit yet.it is docked I can still go forward slow but no reverse.
I want to buy a replacement unit so I can swap.
I have to make sure I order the right one.
