hi,im new to this forum, anyone ever tried a carb spacer?im talking about a 1 inch spacer such as those sold at summit racing, they are suposed to give more plenum volume and therefore a slight boost in hp,the 350 mag(93)already has a hi rise intake, would one of these add a little hp?just wondering? i read somewhere about some guy adding one and getting 1 or 2 mph ?

According to Dennis Moore's SBC book, avoid carb spacers and adapters, disrupts the airflow too much.

The only time those spacers have any use is at the drag strip or if you have a boiling fuel issue.

Re: merc 350 mag,carb spacer?

carb spacers are great if you have the time and dyno to tweak them,
that 350 gas motor at WOT wants air and fuel, the more we get in the more we get out.
a spacer makes the engine think the intake runners are longer, thus you will get a slight boost in cyl filling due to the inertia of the aircharge and valve overlap at WOT, if the system is tuned. for most low RPM motors(below 6K) the spacer is a deterrant, especially if you need any power at the midrange.
I have made them as tall as 5 inches.
once intake tract volume becomes to large the fuel tends to puddle and low and midrange become very erratic. with a 4500 RPM stall converter,a 1500 RPM idle speed and 6.38 gears we did not care much about midrange. as a thread went earlier gasoline is a constant volume fuel that has an incredibly narrow ratio to burn. to much or two little by 2 parts and it does not work well at all, by three parts in may not even run.
this ratio must be maintained regardless of RPM.
before doing any engine mods pen must be placed on paper or the whole thing is a blind basketball game.

I believe a spacer with 4 individual holes on a dual plane manifold would be beneficial, not so with a open spacer.
