I have a 95 Merc. 350.
I just re-built the engine and put it back in the boat.
When I hit the key for a start, the starter and engine will turn over but no spark.
Started troubleshooting, using manual.
I'm not getting 12V to positive side of the coil, I believe this comes from the alternator.
If I jump the purple wires at the alternator then the engine will start and run like a champ.
Then I turn the key off and then disconnect the purple wires to kill the engine.
Connect them back and it cranks fine again.
Anyone know what the problem is here?
I have also noticed that my tach is floating when I turn the key on. Floating, jumps to a few 100 and then slowing moves to full range after a few minutes.
Not sure if the tach has anything to do with this, but read that it may cause problems to the ignition circuit.
The alternator charges fine, is this the regulator? Can it be replaced or fixed without buy a new Alternator?
thanks in advance for the help.
