Where did u get all this knowledge??? You and nhguy are right in tune with this stuff, im going to call summit and see what they can put together, from my seriel number, and head castings, ive heard the heads and the correct pushrod length is super important to make bigger horsepower..
theres a lot to it i dont know about but it interests me and i gotta start somewhere.
your better off calling your local machine shop. summit is just a parts house, sure they have some knowledge, however they wont have their hands on the stuff. you can just buy an HT383 from Summit slap your marine stuff on it and be boating in a few days.
No need for a serial number, with an SBC, you only need to know 2 things. which crank is in it (1-piece or 2-piece) , which heads are you running . those two things will get you 90% there with parts. however prior to ordering anything, you need to pull the block apart and inspect and measure everything hence the suggestion to call your local machine shop.
I did all my recent parts pricing looking to build a 383 for the current boat (already had the vortec heads, etc) then I decided to go big block. chevy motors are so much cheaper than every other motor I have built (I can build a 480hp 496 cubit inch big block chevrolet for less than what I had in my 330hp 235 buick v6)
