I guess that from 2006 and up all 2 stroke 2.5 HP to 50 HP Merc's are rebadged Tohatsus, just wanted to compare Merc's to Tohatsu's prices if available, surely the latter costs bit less than a Merc. Been offered 2 brand new ones, a L40 HP for around $ 4 K and a L50 HP for $ 5K....
As stated Merc offers no 2 strokes ..even the commercial end is now 4 stroke. Due to emissions regulations all Tohatsu and Mercury outboards are 4 stroke. If you was offered these they are old stock pre 2010
Nope are the latest M40 &-50 D2 Tohtsu's models and Merc's 40 & 50 rebadged tiller models in current factory production. Tohatsu, Yam, Suzuki still fabricates 2 strokes OB's for the rest 3/4 of the world along newer 4 strokes motors locally available in a wide range of HP models which don't plan going for any time soon...
Well Merc is not producing any of the latter 2 stroke motors up tp 50 HP, all are rebadged Tohatsu ones as there's a Commercial Joint Venture with Merc going on for years now. This is what the Merc dealer is offering as a 2 stroke L40 HP motor which correponds to the same Tohatsu 3 cylinder M40D2 tiller version.
And a 2 stroke light grey cowl L50 HP tiller version which corresponds to the Tohatsu EverRun L50HP motor and skipped the Tohatsu M50D2 black cowl version...
