Merc 400

I picked up an old MFG last week with a good running Mer 400 40 hp twin cylinder on it. I was down at the dealer getting a w/p kit and some plugs and was told that this motor had all sorts of issues? I was told by one of their mechanics that the 40 HP twins back then had crank shaft issues?
I had never heard anything bad about these before, has anyone else ever had or heard anything to this effect about the old Mercury 400 twins?
