Merc 400M, 2 stroke or 4 stroke ?

Is the 400M (in my case a 1961) a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke engine ? If its a 2 stroke, is it 50:1 or 40:1 or something else ? Any info on the internet anywhere that I can read up on ? Thanks for the previous link concerning finding the year and also parts available ...

it is a 2 stroke design sircsaba...50:1 oil/gas ratio with a good TWC-III rated 2 stroke outboard oil... also http://www.oldmercs.com might have some useful info...
