nope. The heat exchanger needs to be there and the block needs antifreeze because of corrosion issues.
If your having a problem with yours take it to a radiator shop and see if they can do anything with it.

Jason is right, trying to cool a 470 with seawater asking for disaster, it is a very very bad idea. If you are having cooling issues try a 4 inch heat exchanger.

Re: merc. 470 heat exchanger bypass?

Thank for the info. Ive have had several 120's and 140's, but this is my first closed water system. My concern is cools fine at idling or light cruise, but put her on plane or pull a skier and the temp just keep creaping up. I've already replaced the Impeller and Tstat. I'm assuming the exchanger is not exchanging. Any extra info would be great help. thanks

open up the exchanger caps to see if there is any debris in there. If there is clean it out and make sure u can see through the exchanger. Then test the boat out. also check you riser also: the seawater hose leaving the exchanger to the riser, if it is hard as a rock when idling or on a plane then the riser is clogged.
