Ok im tired of trying to find a head for my 470 last 3 i have found all were magafluxed and they showed cracks between valve seats and i really don't want to spend 500$ for a new head. My question is two fold the goat is a Larson 170all American in great condition.Well now my questions(1) well a straight 6 cylinder fit without too much modifications(ie cut stringers reinforce bottom) to the mounts? (2) what about the merc cruiser v6, would like to hear different opinions on the engine swap. I 'm sure in going to get lot of differnt choices,Also i just went thur the whole cooling system.

Re: merc 470

yes i have contacted the various sellers and was told "AS IS" so i don't feel like even biding on the item, and i was told by a high performance engine builder who builds marine and well as auto engine the 460 head is known for cracking between valve seats. So i feel changing out the engine and selling all my good parts is a viable alternative:confused:

So do big block Chevy heads, whats the point?
It`s a ford 460 head.Properly installed, NEVER RUN HOT, it`s lifespan is unlimited

Im with BTDoctor. Dude, its not the head. Its the garbage dump your working with. Its just a ford 460 head. These engines can run like little torque monsters. I got twins.

Correct me if im wrong though. SHOULDNT HE INSTALL THE SPEEDY SLEEVES while its apart? Alt conversion kit and 4 inch riser too. Then you have an economical little torouqe *****.
