Merc 5.0L Tach

Trying to figure out how the tach pickup works on a 5.0L Merc EFI? My tach has completely stopped working (reads about 800 RPM when running, regardless of speed and actual RPM) and I have NO CLUE as to how it works or where the pickup unit is.

2004 Merc 5.0L MPI, serial # OWO18920

Any help or info is appreciated,

Signal comes from the gray/white wire from the ECM.

Verify you have a good power and ground connection on the back of the tacho.
