Merc 5.7 260 tune up time

Have a 1987 merc 5.7 260 hp that I have owned now a couple of years can't afford marine service at this point so looking to do some minor maintenance myself what in order should be done? motor also has a 2 barrel carb that has been rebulit recently. The drive is a alpha 1 and was completely rebuilt and serviced last season.

a good place to start would be the once a year maint. schedule in your mercruiser service manual.

pretty basic stuff. check for loose bolts and clamps and hoses all around, chg oil, check tune up (ign. system, timing) fuel filter replacement, check batt. check engine alignment, clean fa. shift and throttle cable and linkage lub. grease

there's probably drive stuff to do too. lub pivot points, lub steering, lub ujoints, lub gimble brg.

there's always clean up. clean and wax, check fasteners, clean upholstery.

maybe go to the winterization/summerization thread up in the adults only thread. lots of pm to do in them stickys..
