merc 5.7 LX water pump 1996

noticed water leak (slow drip) from behind WP pulley on enging 5.7 LX 350 1996. No temp problems now I was going to wait a couple of weeks till i winterize to change out water pump. How difficult is it? have manual, tools, and some basic know how. also will probably do pump in o/d this winter. What is a decent price for pump? I know it has to be marine.<br /><br />Thanks...

The water pump is doing exactly what it is supposed to do when it is tired.It is a simple change and you can get it cheap at basic power on line 89$.That is about as cheap as you will see it.I would not wait to do it if you want to use the boat because the drip will hit a pulley and belt and sling salt water or antifreeze all over the motor and engine compartment. charlie
