Merc 5.7 oil from the dip stick

I've tryed multiple devices to extract oil from the dipstick and have gotten no oil, I feel like the plastic tube that is send down the dip doesn't reach the oil pan. I have always tryed with oil at running temp.

I'd like to add that you haven't lived until you've changed you oil from the pan screw with your boat still in the water........what a mess!!!!!

I don't use the plastic tube, just put the hose over the top of the dipstick and use a hose clamp. I'll also hold the hose up before I start and make sure there is some only on the impeller in the pump
