I need to remove my Mercruiser 5.7 engine. I have an Alpha 1 Gen2 setup and need to know what needs to be disconnected on the bellhousing end? I have the belts/hoses/cables off and I'm at the 4 engine mount bolts. My manual reads as if the coupler come out with the engine and don't mention anything needed to be disconnected. (outdrive is off)

Go up to the adults only sticky at the top of the forum. You can download the manual for whatever year engine you have. There is a complete section on removal and installation of the engine, and the adjustments you need to do.

Way easier with the drive removed. You are gonna have to do so anyway to realign the engine when you go back in.

Yes the coupler is bolted to the flywheel and is a slip fit on the input shaft.

Thanks for the info. I was stiill wondering if the coupler comes out with the engine and if there is some set key or lock nut that needs to be loosened on the slip coupler?

Ayuh,... The Coupler stays bolted to the flywheel....
When you Pull the Outdrive, there's no longer a connection between the Motor,+ Drive...
Just lift Straight Up,+ out...

I'm at the 4 engine mount bolts.

Make sure you remove the front mounts with the engine. In other words, remove the lag bolts holding the front mounts to the stringers and pull the engine out, mounts and all. MUCH easier that way.

Re: Merc 5.7 removal

Thanks again for the tips.... I got the four engine mounts unbolted today. One of the rear mount bolts froze to the rubber bushing. Two hours of working at it and I got it free! I asked the previous question because someone told me that there is a coupler off the flywheel that need to be unbolted before the engine could be pulled. It looks like the engine is clear to be pulled without unbolting a coupler like BOND O stated.

He never said you have to unbolt the coupler, he said it stays bolted to the flywheel, which it does. The shaft from the outdrive is what had to come out.

Yes...BOND O stated that the coupler comes out with the engine. A friend told me he thought a coupler needed to be unbolted first. I'll have to smack my buddy around for telling me that LOL.
Thanks for everyones help.
