Hi folks - anyone have enough experience with the old merc thunderbolt ignition outboards to give me some idea of the differences between my 68 and a 75 I'm looking at buying for some spare parts and controls?

Both are merc 50hp four cylinders.

From what I can find out the controls are pretty interchangable should I expect any issues? (just talking about shift and throttle - I'm going to run my own choke and ignition)

I looked up a few parts to get an idea and carb floats, flywheel, starter etc look to be the same part numbers - but would drive shaft, internal engine parts, ignition parts, etc be swappable?

Thanks for the info,
cheers!

Powerhead parts are the same. A couple of different ign. systems and even the carb kits and floats are the same. Basically the same engines

thanks Laddies- I think I will find they have different ignition parts (dist, stator, flywheel) because the 68 is recoil and the 75 is electric start...but other than that it looks like I should jump on it

plus I'll finally have controls!

(nice sig by the way, amen to that)
