merc 500 lower unit, 1970 vs 1975 fit??

I have a Merc 500 50 hp 1970 ser#2742087 Thunderbolt. Lower unit leaks bad. I have a chance to buy a lower unit from a 1975 Merc 50 hp which reportedly has good, clean lower unit oil. Anyone know if this 1975 lower unit will fit my 1970 motor? Many thanks in advance!

I think so, check if the bolt pattern is the same but I have a 1972 and a 1975 and the legs are interchangeable and I've actually got a 1980-81 leg on my 1975 right now.<br />Eric
