I have an old 1970 Merc 500 on a Mirrocraft Ski-N-Troll and I recently replaced my transom. Obviously I had the motor off and unfortunately, I didn't pay much attention to where exactly the adjustment screw thingies went. What I mean is on the motor end, the thread shafts on the cables screw into these blocks that mount to a spring loaded device that keeps the cables on the motor.

Since they were loose and free to spin I guess they did and now I have to put my idle lever ALL the way up to start the boat and I also have to really shove my throttle all the way forward as far as I can to achieve much speed.

How do I adjust these and which one of the two is throttle?

Disconnect the cables from the shift and throttle fittings, put the control in neutral and then push it forward - note which one moves first. Put the control in N and slide the shift fitting to the neutral position (half way on the slide) then adjust the cable to reach the fitting. Turn the distributor clockwise until it stops (idle) then adjust the cable to reach the fitting.

Well that was simple! But I found something else wrong while I was in there. Should probably start a new post since it's unrelated to this.

Thanks for the help btw!
