Can someone tell me the correct spark plug for this motor? ser.- 2160845. Also what year? thanks, jdman

think that this is 1967 and the plug you should be using is a L4J and the gap is 30 thou unless it's a 500ss and then the plug's a L19V and there is no gap<br /><br />cheers Daryl

what's the difference in the 500 and the 500ss? the plugs that are in it are the flat type, with no gap. L77, I think. Does this sound right? Thanks, jdman

Yes that is right, those mercs use Perma Gap plugs that is they have no gap, they are flat. If you put regular plugs in that engine you could have problems down the road.

g'day <br /><br />I was just reading from the manual and it said that the ealyer type ignition used the older type plugs <br />the difference between the 500 and the 500ss is the ignition<br />The 500 had magneto with pionts(known as tpye 1) and the 500ss had lighting energizer ignition (no points or known as type 11)<br /><br />cheers Daryl ;)
