Just bought a used boat powered by a Merc 500 (50 hp) which has the mercontrol as the shifter..Just was wondering what the extra wire coming from the control is for ?? I can see the shifter cables for forward/reverse and the throttle.. Then there another wire that looks like some constant power line..<br />This is the one I'm curious about.. Also can anyone help me find out the year of this motor ?? The serial # 7018511.. Is there a newer type of control that I can use instead of the old Mercontrol ?? My Merc dealer said no because I need the control cable that plugs into the side of the motor and the newer type are connected from the front....<br /><br />Help me out ???<br /><br />Vas
