how can you tell if your fuel pump is working? I know that may be a strange question but I have a 80s model 60hp 2 stoke that will not start unless I spray a little gas in the carb even with a new bulb on the fuel line. It runs then with no problems other than bogging down at about 1/2 throttle please help

Ayuh,.... The primer bulb pushes gas through the fuel pump, 'n fills the carbs,.....

My 1st guess is, it might be a Carb issue,....

Are you using the choke and warm-up lever when attempting to start? Does it start easier after it warms up?

As Bondo said - When you pump the bulb, you're pushing gas through the fuel pump. The fact the motor runs after you prime says the fuel pump is working, Not that it's working well, but good enough to run the motor. Disconnect the fuel line between the pump and carbs, then crank the motor over, Fuel should spurt.

Again as Bondo said - The bogging could be telling you it's time for a carb soak in cleaner and a rebuild. I would rebuild the fuel pump at the same time, it's cheap. Also, check timing and compression.

Thanks guys, I am not using the lever just the electronic choke. It runs like a top once primed, but I can pump the primer bulb until it pours gas out of the carbs and it still will not start. It is only when I squeeze gas into the carb through the intake side that it will fire up?
