Re: Merc 65hp on a Jet Star? (now with pictures!)

I'll start a new nova thread once I get a bunch of pictures

I doubt I will get to it until spring, wife is bugging me to start the kitchen :p

When looking at it I had never heard of nova, little voice kicked in saying "nova? wth is a nova? You want this boat!"

Bad part is, I don't have anything to make a template from, floors and side panels are gone

And there is a bunch of parts in the bottom of the boat that I have no clue where they go.

The guy I bought it from said he took the floors and sealed the rivets, but when I asked him what parts were, and what he used to seal he had no clue.

I assume gulvit for the rivets, but it did not stick very well...

And I was hoping someone around here had one with pictures I could work from :D ;)

But $350 for a tin starcraft with engine, worth the $ for entertainment alone

Good job catching a rare SC! Looking forward to some pix. Ya got me hooked w/ all the Mercs too!

Been to Sugarhouse Park lately, stop into the Blue Plate Diner & have a breakfast special sometime for me. Man, do we miss SLC!

I'm sure the FIL would gladly take either boat, esp if they've both been redone! Mine will accept any rejects:D!

I will try and get some pictures today
On my way home from work I'm going to try and reg the boat, I don't want to put any money/work into it until I know its clean.

#1 Bad part is, I don't have anything to make a template from, floors and side panels are gone

#2 And there is a bunch of parts in the bottom of the boat that I have no clue where they go.

#3 But $350 for a tin starcraft with engine, worth the $ for entertainment alone

#3 - $350 for a rare SC with power, even with the floor gone and a dinged trailer is a great deal.

#2 - We can prob ID the parts when you get pics. SCs are SCs for the most part.

#1 - Use the foam sheets we use for flotation to make templates. Nice and light to put and pull out for fine tuning the fit. When you are ready to put the floor down cut them up for your flotation. Killing two birds with one stone.

Good tip with the foam!

And I had a slight hang up today trying to reg the boat.

The seller had a bill of sale from the guy he bought it from, but the seller put the serial for the engine on it and not from the starcraft id plate.

so with that I have 3 forms I have to fill out an submit detailed pictures to get it to clear
so I also got one of the serial of that engine showing it matches the bill of sale... and one of the id tag

and drum roll please - 1973 starcraft nova in rough condition, but shiney!

Wow, stripped clean, you should have paid the PO the $350 for stripping it:eek:

Hopefully you are correct & it's GluVit..

I see another SharkHide project!:D Good looking, hope the Merc fires right up. My FIL statement ^^^ still holds true! May the registration be a quick, speedy & problem-free process!

Re: Merc 65hp on a Jet Star? (now with pictures!)

Thank ya sir :)

Boat was stripped quite well, still some paint on the bottom of the boat though.

I'm thinking about a black bottom or work maybe some sort of 2 tone with silver and black.. or maybe even the dark metalic blue to match the tow vehicle, I gotta look good rolling up to the lake ;)

And if all else fails, I put the 20hp back on the jetstar, and put the 65hp on this boat.

Jas plies us w/ stories of the reflective SharkHide hull bottom bringing the fish a callin'

I really like all the dark sided SC's (deep red, dark blue or black, with a fairly heavy lean towards the deep blue) w/ the bare hull below the strake & white decks:D Of course I play for the 'glasser team, so my votes only count for 1/2 or less.....

Re: Merc 65hp on a Jet Star? (now with pictures!)

You know, I noticed a difference in fish with my black bottom boat (jetstar) and my fil's white bottom boat. (black better than white)

silver bottom boat just could work!
Maybe even give it a bit of the pattern like one of my spinners! :D

Good one,Gib. So now you have figure which one is for your FIL. I vote Jet. The Nova is nicely started on the resto.

Re: Merc 65hp on a Jet Star? (now with pictures!)

Yeah, the more I look at this boat the more I love it.

sucks because I spent so much time and $ on the jet...

but my FIL would make good use of it

I'm going to keep an eye out for a smaller boat for my FIL while I go through this boat, but with my luck I'll find the chief or islander I have been wanting for a lake camper... :p

And I got some feedback from my MIL, she is not happy, and my FIL put the whole thing on me... lol

so I may get to start my collection of starcrafts after all :D

It is an incurable disease, Gib. Shrinks can't help and there isn't any drug proven to work. So you're just gonna have to suck 'em up...I mean suck it up. LOL
