Jas plies us w/ stories of the reflective SharkHide hull bottom bringing the fish a callin'

I really like all the dark sided SC's (deep red, dark blue or black, with a fairly heavy lean towards the deep blue) w/ the bare hull below the strake & white decks:D Of course I play for the 'glasser team, so my votes only count for 1/2 or less.....

I like your idea, if you get bored feel free to play with photoshop/paint :p
I'm not good at choosing patterns/lines, but I'm good at making a copy! :D

I'll start a new proper Nova thread once I get some more pictures, and get this thing cleared with the DMV :)

And back to the jetstar

I have another shipment of epoxy from LCBS, they got it to me in 3 days :)

I have the final pieces cut to finish the floor, just waiting for a coat of epoxy.
I also have a bench cut & fitted, and the seats are installed.

I ended up changing my idea around, and I got the seats mounted pretty low, I have not decided if I mounted them to low yet... :)

I also have new rollers and bunk carpet for the trailer. :D

Check out Jasoutsides finished JetStar build pix in post #1714

He did SharkHide low on the hull & the transom, Black above the waterline, and White on the topsides

Reverse of that could work
Black bottom, silver sides, then black starcraft logo...

The sides are actually laser etched or rolled with "Starcraft", might be able to use some fill paint to make it stand out.

Another issue is I need to get some of the dents out, or atleast make them so they don't stand out as much...

pick up a cheap set of body hammers and dollies at Jas' fave tool store (HF) or JC Whitney and work the dents from the edges towards the center. i was able to work a lot of the dents out of my Lone Star hull that way. unfortunately, you're working with the 2 colors (black and bare aluminum) that show dents the worst.

Thanks, good idea :)

And yeah, that had come to mind, about silver & black.

Main thing is I love is the silver with rivets, gives it that airplane look :D

And I took everything to the DMV, all my detailed pictures and spent time typing out everything detailing the pictures.
took about 20min of waiting, and the boat cleared!
its now mine :D

And another issue, I noticed spots that look like corrosion is starting, and only on the sides of the boat...
I brought the boat home in the middle of a snow storm, so I'm sure it got a bunch of salt on it

I just got back from the wash bay, salt should be gone now...

It's pretty minor, I'll hit it with some polish and see if it clears up, if not I'll hit it with some sand paper.
Unless someone has a better idea? :)

And any tips on storage until I can paint this summer?

Congrats on getting it all legal!
thumbs_up_smiley.gif
Minor spots maybe removed w/ a ScotchBrite or 3M sanding pad (various grits available)... Looks like the scrubber side of a kitchen sponge. I think Jas used a maroon pad to give some of his AL a brushed look. If I remember correctly, he used it on the AL trim around each side of his fab'd gunnel.

And I made a new thread to prevent this one getting to mixed up :)

Glad you got all the paperwork through, that's sometimes a major hassle. Those scoth pads are on my top ten tool list. I was never able to find any locally other than the green ones, but there's a lot they can do!

I was a bit worried about what kind of issues I would have with this.

but the nice lady at the dmv first asked about the age, and since it was so old she said oh those are easy, lets take a look. :p

This is why I keep a hitch lock on my boat. ;)

Re: Merc 65hp on a Jet Star? (now with pictures!)

My FIL came over this weekend, he kept telling me I can only have one boat...

pfft. :p

His eyes did light up for a split second when I asked him if my jet would work for him, then his poker face kicked back in, acting like "I dunno, what ever". :p

And I got the floor finished yesterday, I pushed it up a bit further than the orignal floor, and started regretting my idea, it was really hard to get that plywood to bend enough to get rivets in.

Front seats are mounted, I'm happy with the way it turned out.

I will try and get pictures before I head off to work, but I may not have time... ;)

Strips are wax paper to protect the epoxy, I had to trim the ends of the boards a little...

Yeah I bet he did.... Of course, disagreeing w/ the Admiral's dad may not be conducive to sleeping in the house........

Good to hear your Jet is getting closer. Yah know, my offer still stands if you have to push a boat out of your stable, me & my FIL will keep 1 warm, safe & motor regularly rotated! But only if you really need us too!:D

Have a great week. Gotta work to pay for the boat rehab. It is what is....

lol

good to hear the jet will have a loving home no matter what is decided. :p

My FIL started telling me I don't have the room for two boats, I raised my eyebrow at him.. (big part of why I bought this house was the huge cement pad in the backyard)
He backed up and said, well you can't afford the registration on two boats, eyebrow goes up again, told him for these old boats the state only charges me about $30 a year.

He had nothing else.

But you know, he does want the jet, they have a condo down south, that would be perfect for wintertime fishing/boating.
and the jet would be perfect for his little truck. ;)

Re: Merc 65hp on a Jet Star? (now with pictures!)

I have not got much more done on the jet due to kitchen & the nova, but I did run into an interesting ad
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=19121449&cat=537&lpid=2&search
Guy asking $50 for a trash boat with what looked like a merc 650 :D

I went down there today to take a look, and sure enough its a 1975 merc 650, and a clean one!
Its missing the cowl but everything else is there, even the little bag holding the timing pointer & starter rope!

The boat did not have any good parts, but the guy agreed to sell it to me engine only, so I dragged the boat onto his drive way to make it easier for him and his son to cut the boat up later.

One of the engine bolts would not give even a little, so I ended up using my sawsall to cut into the transom and sliced it in the middle, transom was gone, nothing but wet sawdust

The engine came with everything, controlls, wiring harness and mercury battery cables. everything looked almost factory fresh, even the wiring harness plug was clean and shiney.

I turned the engine a little and it felt gritty, but it might of had some crud up under the flywheel
I decided to not turn it until I have a chance to lube everything and clean it up.

and when I started pulling money out he stopped me and told me the $35 was fine. :)

Nice guy, and it would be great if I could actually get this engine running, if not I have a bunch of great parts, and a great looking spare prop & lower

Re: Merc 65hp on a Jet Star? (now with pictures!)

That's what I'm thinking :D

Or if I can't get the Merc 800 running it can go on the nova

And I have 6 merc outboards now...
2 merc 20hp 200, 1 merc 9.8hp 110, 2 merc 65hp 650, and 1 merc 80hp 800.
And they all run right now except for the new 650, and the 800.

Man I'm going to have an awesome garage sale :)

Make sure to keep taking your MBS meds, or you may start looking for additional transoms to hang them on!:D

Nice score on the $35 motor!

Have a great end to the weekend!
