I lost spark on our early 70's Merc "800" 80hp.<br />Is there a place to get a reasonably priced coil/ pack what ever it would need? Thanks for any help!
It's very possible to have a bad trigger unit in the distributor besides a bad power pack or coil. Very seldom do the coils on these Merc CDI Ign's fail. You can do resistance checks on the coil to help rule it out.<br /><br />You might check out this post which has instructions on how to test the ign:<br /><br /> http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=29;t=013041 <br /><br />The only diff between the I-4 ign and I-6 is the 'chopper in the distributor, 4 windows vs. 6.<br /><br />HTH........ed
