hello, I know this probably sounds pretty dumb, but I need help hooking up the throttle cables to my outboard.

I know one is for shifting and the other is for timing.
I have a 72 mercury 800 thunderbolt.
I think that the large handle cable goes to the bottom of the motor, and the small one goes to the distributor linkage.
Am I corect?
how do I adjust them?

Also, I am worried that the lower unit is not stock. I only say that because it has a large threaded end instead of a fince threaded end, and the nut off another tb800 motor would not fit on it. But a nut off of a tb500 would, so I am kinda concerned.

thanks

Chris

The first cable that moves when you move your control handle is the shift cable. The other cable is actually the throttle cable that connects to the throttle linkage that also moves your timing. The throttle cable will start to move after the shift cable. Just check to see which one moves first.

If by small handle you mean the warm up lever on the control, Yes that will move the throttle cable. You can adjust the cables by turning the barrels in or out at the motor end.
