merc 888 trim not going up

Hi guys..need a fairly fast answer on this...pulling my hair out...even after reading other posts with similar issues.

we have a 888 ford 302 in a glastron sierra (1975 I believe) serial in the 4's. anyway... trim goes down fine..motor sounds fine...won't come up. checked the oil...filled. checked the switch..its getting power.. no clicking when i select up. looks like a single solonoid..and I really don't have time or money to go buying parts..any way to run a jumper to swing the motor in the other direction..for the time being??

I can lift the lower unit (grunting of course) by hand...but its gonna get old fast. I don't have the chapter on troubleshooting this from the merc book..only the first 5 chapters...grrrrrrrrr

I had the same problem with my boat but it is a '96. It has 2 separate selenoids. One for up and one for down. I had someone activating the up switch and down switch and I used a multimeter on DC to see what was happening. I found that juice was getting to one side of the up selenoid but not going through it. I saw on the down selenoid how it worked when activated so I knew where to jumper it. I did while my help activated the up button normally and it worked...with no blow fuses.

for any interested...i did get the drive up..but had to jump the up connection to the red (positive) connection on the unit... works well..for a temporary fix. im prob out to get a solonoid this week.
