Merc 9.9 4 stroke control compatibility...

While not a repair, I thought this might be the right place to ask...

What controls are compatible with a 2004 9.9 el 4st (remote) ? Are all the 2000, 3000, and 4000 GENII usable with this motor ? I'm told it has a 14 pin harness . I was also told that there's an adaptor available for older controls with the 8 pin harness ( to make it usable with a 14 pin 9.9) . Anyone know anything about this ?

What is the SN of your engine? Any of those controls should work as long as you have the proper harness adapter.

I don't have the serial number ( yet, anyway) . It's a motor I'm considering buying . I found a great deal on a "new" 2004 - still in the crate so to speak . I just wondered if I'd neeed to buy the latest/greatest controls at the "greatest" prices .

Anyone know of anything negative about the 2004 9.9 Merc 4-strokes ?
