Pretty green here with the outboards. My Dad has a 2005ish Merc 90 hp. He says the volt gauge keeps going up to max, 18v the next time he looks, its normal. It happened 3-4 times in a 3 hour ride. He dosen't know if it quickly jumps up and down, just that when he looks at it, it changed. He didn't have any trouble or failure out on the water. Do these have seperate voltage regulators? How do these function? I won't see the boat til this weekend. I'm going by what he said. I know it could be loose wires, but to go to max it's telling me that it's grounded, not open. Did I remember this right? Just looking for anything that will help me this weekend. I realy don't want M & Dad stuck out on the lake being in their 80's. Thanks in advance.
