merc alpha 1 stearndrive wont go down

Hi

I used my boat about 8 weeks ago and all workrd fine its been on the driveway since.

I went out today to have a play untill i realised the leg wont go down it makes all the right noises goes down about half inch and thats it.

Checked the oil that was perfect what can it be? i have just taken a deposit on the boat and have 2 weeks to fix it.

Any help would be great

P.s i topped the oil up under the hood it was about 2 inch under full. is there anywhere else i should put hydrolic oil?

Ayuh,.....

Have a friend, preferably a Fat 1 jump on the drive as the pump is run in the down position....
Then Grease the pivot points...

Also, when you run it Up,+ it crowds out, (the noise change at the top)...
Tap it down just alittle before you put it away,.. It unloads the by-pass valving in the pump,+ it's less likely to get Stuck up...

yep... your not going to hurt the drive. If the boat is smaller you may want to have another fat friend stand on the trailer tongue.

I got my boy to get in the boat while i jumped like a monkey on the leg and yes it worked.

glad that worked for you.... i have a concern though. don't know about yer alpha1. but on my 1 drive (prealpha, very similar to alpha1). ya check the trim fluid with the drive down. that way all the fluid is in the resivour for checking on it's level. if the drive is up. the fluid is in the rams, not in the resivouir. so if you topped it off while it was up. i'd think i'd be overfull by a lot....

That makes sense i will go out now and have a look if it is over full whats the best way to take some out?

It was only about 2 inch below full mark so ive not put much in.
