Greetings, y'all. I'm new to the site, and have a couple of questions about a couple of motors. This may take a while, so pull up a beer and get comfortable.

The first are about a late 80's 100hp oil injected Mercury outboard. Where can I find the model/serial numbers stamped on it? Second, it has an idle problem. Below 2000 rpms it struggles and dies. Can't tell if it is flooding or starving. WOT is fine. The gas is a little old and funky smelling so I put in some conditioner and added about half a tank of new fuel, but it didn't seem to help. Rebuild the carbs?

Next is an even older Johnson 35, two cylinders, one carb, and again the year is undetermined (late 70's to early 80's). This one runs great until the water gets a little rough (1-2 feet on the Indian River near Cape Canaveral). Obviously the motor is working a little harder in the rougher water, and after a while it quits running. No stutter, no warning, nothing. It just quits. Water flow at the tell tale is good, and the powerhead does not seem to be overly hot. After sitting for 10 minutes or so it will fire back up and off we go, for maybe a half mile or so and then it does it again. Burning incense and sacrificing chickens hasn't helped. Any other ideas (besides slow down)?

Thanks for your patience. Dan
