I have 2006 Sun tracker 18' pontoon boat. The throttle is so stiff that it slams everone forawrd evertime you decelerate. It just goes from full throttle to idle with one jerk. I looked for adjustment on the trottle but none made a difference. The boat is in Canada so getting it back to the dealer in Pa is a pain.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Merc binacle throttle

I think they have dealers in Canada as well as this side of the line.

At any rate a 2006 boat should not have this problem, and you should not be trying to fix it,a Dealer should.

I would guess you have Gen II controls and Gen I cables,or the other way around. But I'm guessing .

What happens when you can't pull the throttle back down the road, when it gets worse? I'd shut off the key,and you probably would too. What if a new user were at the controls ? And doesn't think of this ?

A lot of stiff controls, or stiff steering problems are caused by improper cable routing. If you bend a control cable too sharply, it'll drag going around the corner. After later, it'll wear out or break out at that point and seize up.

Get it fixed for safety's sake.

If the cable isn't currently kinked, it may have been kinked during installation and subsequently straightened out. I think an '06 cable is too new to be hanging up due to corrosion. Agree on the safety concern, however with a toon it's not as serious a concern as it would be on a high performance boat.....but is still a concern with regard to breaking.
