Hello everyone. I want to first off thank everyone for any help that they may lend my way as I am at a total loss on what to do here.
I have a 92 blackmax and the overheat alarm was going off but very quietly, temps were fine, and the alarm will go off with the ignition on but motor off.
So i decided to check the connections for the oil control module on the starboard side of the engine. There are 2 screws on a small bus bar. I removed the top screw which had a connection from the main wiring harness and attached to the overheat temp sensor on the head. This did nothing. The faint beeping was still there. Then i put it back on and now the faint constant beep had turned to a LOUD constant beep.
It appears that the wiring from the main harness that connects to the overheat sensor detects ground, when the overheat sensor overheats, it grounds, thus signaling a overheat alarm.
Now if i remove both the connections from the top and bottom screws on the bus bar I can get the alarm to shut up, or if i touch the purple wire(a bottom connection feeding from the main wiring harness, hot wire) to the tan wire from the wire harness (top wire feeding from the wiring harness) The alarm will shut up.
I also lost the check beeps when the ignition is turned on. It won't do it anymore and I can't make it do it again even by retracing my steps. I checked all the fuses and they were good. Im thinking perhaps the bus bar is grounding for some reason as it appears to make the louder noise when i tighten down the top nut.
I have also tried removing the overheat sensor so that it cannot ground and still the sound is there.
I am at a loss here.
I believe it HAS to be the oil control module, i don't know what else it could be. From what i read it seems as if there is a low or faint beep there is something beginning to go wrong with the module itself as it cannot regulate a temperature sound.
Also does the oil control module control the start up beeps as well? I cannot figure out which oil control module would be my replacement, mine does not have any numbers on it anywhere. Would one from a 200hp black max work? I read that there are two different types of oil control modules, and some are 3 wire vs 4 wire.
Please help me, i have done hours of searching and reading and more searching and reading but still cannot figure this out. I feel as if I am chasing my tail.
Thank you in advance.
