The float on the right is the one they say replaces the bad one on the left. It is obvious they are different. Anyone help with a part number on the bad float.
If you have the rest of the motor you could look up the serial number at www.maxrules.com and find out the year. That looks like a V6 carb, but that doesn't narrow it down too much.
Got the motor but someone changed the powerhead out and no numbers on the powerhead. Serial number on the motor will not get me anywhere close I have already ordered parts off it and got stuck with several parts.
My manuals are vague about the year, one says 200HP 78 to 90, and lists a WH3A starting in 1980 so I think that carb would be 78 to early 80s. remember each cyl has differant size jets.
Ya I looked through all my parts manuals and cannot figure this thing out. It came to me from a performance outboard racing shop but I dont think this makes any difference. I have worked on thousands of Merc's and never had this problem. The motor runs out great but just needs a float. I already changed the needle and seat out which came from a 78-88 200hp but still leaks on prime. Swapped the floats and just leaked on the other side so no doubt it is the float. Tried all the old timer tricks to get the float bouncy back and still nothing. What a pain but thanks for all the help.
Ok next I am going to put this float in the powder coating oven on low with the door open. Hope it works. What else do I have to lose anyways. I will post some pics of the before and after and hopefully they look the same.
