Same question I have asked in the past, just wording differently. Is there ANY reason that you could not use a Merc fuel tank cap instead of the OMC cap? Any drawbacks? Running a 57 Johnson 18 horse, or a Ted Williams 5 hp. Thanks! I am a yard/estate sale junkie but only find Merc caps or OMC missing the plug on the top...

The old OMC metal tankls from the 1960's did not use a vent in the cap.----The vent is elsewhere on those tanks.

BUT....that is nice to know! Have looked at the caps on my several metal tanks and thought they did not look vented.

If the motor needs a vented, single line tank, it really doesn't care where the fuel line is plugged in as long as it meets that requirement...

Look at where the fuel line connects at the tank. There are one or two pins that get pushed in when the fuel line is attached, they open the vents

So, since the Merc cap has an adjustable vent, I should be able to close it all the way an be ok?
