Merc High Performance in volvo penta DP-SM

I had my drive resealed new upper seal kit,sleeve and the seal kit lower The mechanic refilled the drive with merc high performance. I am wondering if this is the right thing to do. I have always changed it and refilled it with volvo GL5. Can merc high preformance be a substitute or is this mechanic off base? Thanks

The Merc HP gear lube sets the standards by which all other gear lubes should be judged by.

I agree, Your good to go.

The mercruiser HP gear lube is really good oil, Also it seems to last longer then the volvo GL5 oil without getting that burn smell to it.

I am a Volvo certified tech. Have been to all the schools. Including the SX/DPS school. My previous boat was also Volvo with a DP. I used Merc HiPerformace gear lube in mine, but since we were a Volvo dealer where I worked then, we used the Volvo gear lube.
Where I work now, which is neither Merc or Volvo dealer, we use Merc HP. Even before I got there.
