I have a 1991,3 cylinder 75 hp thats giving me a fit.

I tried the tests in the oem manual for the stator, rectifier and electrical.

The stator showed an open circuit...no ohm reading at all..?

The rectifier that is on the motor is not the correct one.It was rigged on by someone else at some point.

Looking at the CDI stator kit it says you must use the CDI rectifier-regulator..
Now i am wondering if the switch box should be replaced also.

Is the stator the most common thing to fail on the ignition?

For the CDI stator,Rectifier and switch box is 500 bucks.

Any tips or input on anything else to test?
I did test the kill switch and the mercury kill switch on the side of the motor that kills ignition if its tilted up too far.
Removed cannon plug and still no fire.
