Picked up along with some other motors, a Merc KF 7 Super 10. Either a 59 or 60. Rough shape, lousy repaint, turns over hard and slow with the recoil, but does turn over, missing a good chunk out of the ventilation plate. I know the Hurricanes are highly collectible, but can anyone give me a little info on just what this might be worth? Or should I just pull it down, and ebay the parts. Thanks for any response.

Re: Merc KF 7 Super 10 info

Hi Scaaty,
The KF7 Lightning was kinda the intermediate 10 from 1949 to 1950. It had the styling and lower unit design of the KG7 Hurricane, but the power of the KE7 Lightning (approx. 14 hp for the KE7/KF7 vs. 18 for the KG7). It had only two intake reeds per cylinder vs. the four per on the KG7, plus a smaller carb than the KG7. Although not a slouch, there is a big seat-of-the-pants difference between the KF7 and the KG7.
Your motor might simply be dry resulting in the slow pull-over. All of those green toppers pulled over hard due to the design of the recoil and relatively high compression. Some lube to the recoil and motor itself may help some.
Any of the green Mercs are very collectible and well worth keeping and fixing up. Paint is available from several sources and if yours has the lower cowling, you're way ahead of the curve already!

Heres a night time pic..I will look it over this weekend. This motor is as old as I am, and I remember them well on the Hydros when I was just a kid!
