Hi All. I have 2 merc lower ends - the one is a 8hp, the other I'm not sure - I think a 20hp?

How do I identify them? (I'm planning to sell) I don't have the original motors - just in a pile of spares.

I posted pics if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Thie first one does appear to be for a 6/8/9.9/15 Merc. The second one looks more like a 35/45/50/65/70 style from the 1970s-1980s. Gear ratio would determine whether it was for a 2/4 cylinder (35/40/45/50 hp) or a 3-cylinder (50/60/65/70).

Thank you. In order to sell it, how would I list it? Just as that??

1) for a 6/8/9.9/15 Merc
2) for a 35/45/50/65/70 style from the 1970s-1980s

You can locate the part number of the housing by looking from the top aft portion of the lower unit, down. It may be gunked up. Clean it and try to match it up to the part numbers in the parts catalogs. Only way I would know how to get the correct motor to match. Those vary greatly in size to very little. Just because you have the same guts doesn't mean the lower is for that motor.
