I have a 1999 Optimax, 225 hp, 2 stroke. I live in MD/ DC area and want to winterize it. I just bought a bunch of things, some may go back :
1- winterizing kit ( tank for anti-freeze)
2 - bottle anti freeze
1- can crc fogging spray

after reading some posts- looks like I may not need any of these....

ps- I know i have to change the lower unit fluid.

and what about the mercury efi spray ....

thanks

You can run the antifreeze if you want. Not really necessary.
The fogging spray is what I'd use.
What's the EFI spray?
If possible,fill the tank with non-ethanol fuel.Use fuel stabilizers.J

Leave the motor in an upright position over the winter.J

yes- my thougths exact. I just returned the anti-freeze kit.
the EFI spray is just Mercury's engine spray like crc or wd 40, I dont think its really for a specific part / type of motor.

If your motor is used in salt water you may want to flush the cooling system with plenty of fresh water to remove as much salt as possible after each use.

When you add the fuel stabilizer (Stabil or SeaFoam, etc) run the engine long enough to get the treated fuel into the engine fuel system.

To answer your question - NO. Add stabilizer to your fuel tank and run the motor for a few minutes for the stabilized fuel to run through the fuel system. But you don't need to worry that, just dump some in your tank.
