I am happy with the current performance of the 13.75 x 21P prop I have now, and the RPM's are right on. I am just looking to upgrade to an SS from the stocker aluminum prop I have. Not looking for anything serious. Anyone else running this prop? Pro's/con's? Other suggestions? Wondering also if it just worth buying the Quicksilver Silverado (the imitation)
Thanks in advance.

Re: Merc Vengeance?

what prop did you have on your boat before? i have been seeking info to upgrade performance on my rig. It currently has a 13 3/8x17 prop. the boat is a 120 hp 18' long enclosed bow Penn Yann and am wondering if a 21p would be too much.

21P for you boat I think is probably going to be too much prop...120hp probably really sluggish out of the hole, may not get the revs you need out of it either.

Not sure what your trying to achieve, but personally if it were mine, I think I would leave well enough alone?
You say your happy with your current prop and the RPM's are right on so why bother, plus by just choosing a Vengence or any other SS prop does not mean your going to see better results, you could actually see worse results than your current alum prop.
I was going to get a SS last year but I also knew very little about props until I researched here, in my findings I found out that not all props are created equal, SS or alum.
Personally I would think about it more before you just go out and buy an SS for something to do?............Irv964

Well the thing is a need another prop as a spare anyway so might as well do a bit of an upgrade at the same time and use my aluminum prop as a spare. Stainless is stronger, doesn't bend or chip and will outlast an aluminum prop, and i can't imagine an ss prop made by merc with the same dimensions will decrease my performance.

Re: Merc Vengeance?

Action having a spare is a very good idea. But I will tell you that you most certainly can buy a mercury stainless prop that can lower your performance numbers, if you buy the wrong geometry prop. Even if it is the same diameter and pitch. Just trying to give you a heads up Action. If you will go back to the forum main page and read the sticky on what information we need we will certainly try to help you though.

Specualting yes perhaps a 4=5 mph gain...but your speed @ wot with the rpm range your boat can achieve is the starting point..I would be nice to know drive type and gearing..;)

Re: Merc Vengeance?

K guys a little more on the specs of the boat:
4.3L MPI 220hp alpha drive
1.62 gear ratio
Prop on it now is 13.75x21P aluminum merc 3 blade
Weight of the boat with motor is around 2800 pounds (18' footer)
Boat does 53 mph on GPS with the prop on it now @ 4800 with myself in it.
Looking for all around good performance, hole shot is good the way it is. Just want to upgrade to an SS prop as I said, i need a spare and I have a potentially good deal on one.
Thanks for your help, open to any suggestions!

Re: Merc Vengeance?

Well i am glad i said specualtive....This post is a good reason for posting your current boats performance with numbers. You fianl gearing is surprising in the fact that it is a 1.62. Your running at 10% slip which is very good right out of the box so to speak.

You are also posting your numbers as you being the sole occupant..By your self alone this would be a good prop.

Note that it is a 3 blade 20..not to many of those around, And solas make's a very good bow lifting prop there.

Now if it was me id go here.

http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/Me...23202/?**********=609641455&*******=503594654

You might loose 1 or 2mph on the top end, but you would have far more midrange punch from 15-40 mph. You could put some people in that boat and still should propped to handle the load...

The 3 blade 20 is a high speed prop the 4 blade is by far more practical...

Re: Merc Vengeance?

Good to know thanks for the suggestions. Yes right of the box, I think the boat is very well powered and the setup now I am happy with. I just have the option to get the prop at a good price and as I said I need an extra....Not really leaning towards the 4 blade, hole shot and mid range are not an issue. I did the prop calculator on Merc's website, they suggested upping to a 23" pitch...not sure I want to do that, may gain some top end but I will lose some holeshot especially if I have a few people on board...
