After reading all of this I was thinking the same thing. Devil's advocate..... sell them both and buy a Yammy!

Mercurys "Tower Of Power is not for whiners and baby's,
I've had seven of them and they never lost a race with any other brand of motor the same hp or less, if you want a motor for your three year old daughter or your grandma to go sightseeing then stick with the Johnson.
If both motors check out about the same and you can't decide which to keep then let the looks decide, old Mercurys have always had a modern sleek look compared to those hidious, ugly Johnsons and evinrudes with the huge engine covers.

Ok a little update.....

Just for the record, my Mercury "tower" is a beast. I really think it defines, for me, what a boat motor should be. I appreciate everyone’s take on the Johnson but I can't get past the Merc. It’s kind of like my BMW 330is vs. my Z06 Corvette; they are both great cars but the corvette just makes you smile when it pushes you into the seat!

I took the 1995 Glastron to my engine guy to have him check it out. Apparently the guy i bought it from changed the cowl from an '81 and put it on this engine which turned out to be a '79. One carb is leaking badly and there is a cooling issue (weak) on one side. But worst of all it’s actually a 100 hp and not a 115 hp which is what the '81 cowl says!!!

So, I am now looking for a 150 HP engine and prefer one that is ’95 or newer. If anyone has a suggestion as to whom to contact to buy a motor please let me know.
