My brother's '95 Merc has a strange electronic problem. It wouldn't run, start, the electronics are doing strange things like you turn on the ign. and the tach goes all the way to the end, then back down, the overheat beeper goes off one time the ign. is turned on, shut it off turn it back on again and it doesn't beep, starter won't turn over once, then next time it does and it fires right up, hit the trim button and the whole thing shuts down, no elec. working at all. All connections look good, inline fuse not blown, battery is brand new, nothing visual looks bad. I had to tow him back to the dock today. Any ideas? Thanks ahead of time!

The important clue is that when you hit the trim everything quits.

Go straight to the battery cables, take them off, clean bright and tight, BOTH ENDS, and I do not mean just both cables at the battery, I mean BOTH ENDS of BOTH CABLES.

Thanks, Charlie; will advise my brother of this, although the battery connections all look good. Anybody else out there have any suggestions?

The oil alert normally beeps 4 times. If the batteries down, it'll beep 3. If it beeps once, ..... it ain't rocket science.

Clean the connections and check the battery.

hope it helps
