merc/yamaha

i was talking to a merc dealer today and he told me that the power heads on the merc and the yamaha 4 strokes were made by a third party.and that merc and yamaha had gotten into a miff about yamaha buying up the powerheads and causing merc to have a shortage on some models.and merc was going to make there own powerheads next year.has anbody heard anything similar.

For years there was not a Yamaha outboard factory, they were made by Sanshin, part of Hamamatsu. Recently Yamaha built a plant but I do not know which motors are built in it, all or just a few models.
