No, and no.

Go up to the adults only sticky at the top of this forum and download the manual for whatever engine you have. It will have the carb info in it.
All Mercarbs are not the same.

Re: mercarb advise

Bud, I found the same thing on my old mercarbs. Looks like folks are taking the springs out and tossing them. I could not find the return spring anywhere. There is a major spring mfg that shows what you need but does not carry it so i took the dimensions and found a stainless spring at HDepot no less. I cut a few coils out of it to try to match it to the diagram but it sprung back to fierce. I then cut some more coils out and it feels about right. Hope im not out of line because i am not a marine mech.

There should be a spring under the pump, this brings the pump lever back to full stop postion. If the jets have a tapered seat they don't use a gasket.

im missing the check bal,l retainer clip, and screen,,, i have the big spring, that pushes the accelarator pump back,,,, just really not sure about the check ball, the manual says to toss the screen, do you still need the check ball and clip,, thanks to all, i have the full blown manual,,, and have been very confused about the carbs

You need the check ball, clip and spring use the gasket to help hold the clip in place when installing the venturi cluster.

Re: mercarb advise

don s thanks again you forced me to slow down and recheck my you know whats, i did and found i have a rochester, not a mcm,, this is not hard for me to admit, but you saved this project, very well done, my carb does not use the check ball like the merc carbs,, found out this by going back to the numbers on my carb not the tag,, previous owner must have put the tag from original carb or something happened, but i was looking at the wrong picture,, plus the rebuild kit shows it also, so i should be able to cont, with the project,,

Quick and easy way to tell the difference is the Mercarb only has one air adjustment screw, while the Rochester has two.
