Re: mercarb rebuild help needed

I bought my carb cleaner at advanced auto parts 24.00. I also got a throw away pan for soaking. The 1 gallon can wasn't big enough for the bottom section of the carb.

Re: mercarb rebuild help needed

sorry for the late reply. I ended up buyuing the one gallon can of carb cleaner from advance auto parts. it was $22. I soaked all the parts in it for over 24 hrs. this stuff worked great. When I blew everything off with compressed air all the old black paint even came off. reassembled everything with the new parts from the kit using my service manual. took it back out on the water adjuted the idle speed and mixture and now it runs great. there was a lot of gunk inside the float bowl I assume from the boat sitting for 4 years untouched by the previous owner. I am a very mechanical person, have assemble a few engines and do all of my own service work but I have never had a carb apart before and have to admit i was a little nervous about it, but it was straightforward if you have the manual. I got my carb kit from my local dealer.
