Re: Mercarb

Should I re-build this carb or should I replace this carb with Rochester replacement?

Re: Mercarb

I would not go with the Rochester... i bought one once. Mistake. Fits like crap on my rig. Had to rebend fuel lines, grind thermostat housing to clear, and some other issues. Ended up pulling it off and selling. Just rebuild what you have... $50 rebuild kit and some time and you are good to go! Hope this helps...

Re: Mercarb

Now have what appears to be a carburation problem When motor is cold and warming up (1-2 min) it idles fine As it warms it stalls out and dies I can restart it but I have to pump the throttle and set it approx. 1/2 throttle for it start but runs extremely rough and dies again If I keep trying torestart it it will start to pop back through the carburetor

Re: Mercarb

Sounds more like a fuel pump problem or a loss of fuel in the line to the pump.

Re: Mercarb

Have you replaced the fuel filter in the fuel pump? Or checked the filter in the inlet of the carb?

Ayuh,... Then My guess is the filter in the carb's inlet fittin' is 'bout plugged up....

Best bet is to replace Both of the filters Don's talkin' 'bout, 'n plumb in a canister type filter, just before the fuel pump....

Re: Mercarb

And lose the starter fluid, unless you want to be rebuilding an engine very soon....

Re: Mercarb

Used it only to see if it would stay running. Not something I usually use.
