MerCathode Testing is there a way

I'm not sure if is the correct forum for this question but here goes.<br />I have noticed some corrosion on my outdrive. The boat is equipped with the MerCathode system that is, I believe, susposed to prevent corrosion. Is there any way to test the operation of the MerCathode system with a multi-meter or other simple test? Are there other things I should be checking?

You will need the manual to check the mercathode systems operation.You should also check that all zincs are in tact(less than half used up).The zincs are more important than the system.Charlie

It is also important that all metal parts of the drive are bonded together.There are continuity parts and wires to keep everything connected coming right through the hull into the steering mech. and to the engine.This will spread out the galvanic action so no 1 part is isolated to be attacked.The more zincs you put,the safer you are. Thanks Charlie,<br />The Clymers manual I have has a section on corrosion prevention and some info on the MerCathode is in it. I will check all the bonding on the outdrive to make sure it is in good condition. The zincs look in pretty good shape. I bought this 88 Seville CC a year ago and am learning a lot. This forum is a great help with all my questions.

John if the zincs are in too good shape,that means they are not working right.Make sure it is cleaned to the metal where they are making contact.Tighten them and hit with a hammer and then tighten again.I put zincs on the lift cyl. shafts and on the trim tabs,acorn zincs on the bottom of the bellhousing and a fin tab on the drive unit by the prop.I also have one under the bellhousing.When it comes to zincs,the more the merrier.you can never have too much protection.
