i understand the 2 wires that come from the lower unit, brown and orange, are attached to the new mercahtode unit. however, the hot wire, should it go to the starter, where it has power only when the engineis on, or to the battery where it is hot all the time? this is on the new 2006 383 that is replacing a 97 260 mercruiser, thanks!

It should go to the battery. You want the corrosion protection even if the battery switch is off.<br />NOTE: Over a period of time, it will discharge your battery. So only hook it to your house battery bank, not your starting battery. Got to have some way to start the engine.

i have a dual battery, charging-starting system, it charges when in the slip , so it shouldnt be a problem,,,, thanks
