MerControl cable replacement and reassembly question

I recently bought a boat with a 1976 Mercury 65hp. The jackets on the throttle and shift cables were damaged and rusting so I've purchased some new ones to replace them.

I was able to get the MerControl box open easy enough to remove the old cables and attach the new ones, but now I'm having an issue that I believe might have to do with the alignment of the cam roller on re-assembly. I kept playing with the position of the roller until I could get the unit closed, but the throttle activity is not what I would expect.

1. The throttle cable seems to bind a bit if the warm up lever is pushed all the way down in the locked position.
2. If I push the throttle forward it does go in to gear but the throttle cable does not seem to engage until I push the lever to about half of the total throw.
3. If I push the throttle in reverse it seems to go in to gear and the throttle cable begins to react almost immediately if I continue to move the lever further in reverse.

I'm new to this and any suggestions or tips on how to get this configured correctly would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Jake
