I just bought a 1975 18' Cobalt with a Mercury 233 (Chevy 350). I launched it yesterday and when I got in the water the boat stuck in gear (both forward and reverse). The only way I could get it out of gear was to turn off the ignition, put it in neutral, re-start the engine, and put it back into gear. The MerControl lever is very loose (about 1/4-3/8 away from the plastic panel). How do I remove the lever? Is there a clip holding it in place? Do I need a special tool? The best thing to do would be re-seat the lever, but it doesn't want to be pushed up to the plastic panel. All suggestions are welcome!!! Thanks.
