MerControl Question

This may seem really silly but I have to know. I am putting back together an old Starcraft that has the inline 6 Mercruiser in it with the MerControl. The control has a crome handle with a black center button. My question is this - what is the black and white wires for coming out of the box? It is about 6 feet long. This is not the cables but actually a black rubber casing that has a single black wire and white wire in it.

Not sure but could be a neutral safety switch.Turn it over and see if it goes to a switch that's activated when it's shifted.J

Yes, it's the neutral safety switch.

The wires connect to your ignition switch so the starter can only turn when the shifter is in neutral.

It's a special cable designed to trick people into asking for other ideas if they don't like the answer they are given....

It's the neutral safety switch wiring. Connect it in series with the yellow/red wire coming from the ignition switch.
